The first gigs that we played were in Blackpool, and I remember when we got to the lines, "After 30 years..." the audience sang it back to me, punching the air with joy, and I remember being completely done in by it, completely devastated by it. They'd taken something that I'd written as self-abuse and dark, and turned it into a celebration, and I thought, that's healing. And they did that on all those songs that night. And I suddenly realised that was what being in a band was all partly doing for me.
