The Schoolhouse Was Under The Pavement, Beneath The Streets, Sidewalked Over An Age Ago.
They found it in the middle of building underground parking.
"All the mainlines were routed around," the head engineer told her. "No records of this," he said.
Looking over the layout, she imagined it was like a medieval cathedral. Dark and overwhelming, a factory of a forgotten era.
They decided not to tell anyone.
She was already in trouble.
Inside, the desks were broken, left to the side. A carve-drawing of the local solar-system circled the floor, surrounded by stick-figures and dates.
Her name was written above the sun.
